Kurzweil 3000 Literacy Software

Author: Heidi Kroner, Executive Director, Aspire Academy

Do you have a student who is struggling with reading the internet for research, organizing their thoughts for writing papers, forgetting suffixes and forgetting whole words when writing? Kurzweil Literacy Software offers solutions for all of these problems and more.

Kurzweil 3000 software was created for students with dyslexia and other language-based challenges. The goal of the software is to give students with reading, spelling and writing challenges the tools to succeed. It has graphic organizers for papers, plug-ins to read any web site, articles can be scanned in to be read, highlighted and manipulated into outlines for paper-writing purposes.  It has predictive spelling, translators for ESL students, and books and textbooks from Bookshare hook-up seamlessly with it.  It has text-to-speech and speech-to-text functions. It gives students many ways to research, organize, and edit.  Recommended age: seventh grade and beyond.

Aspire Academy has a site license to distribute the software and we teach parents, students and teachers how to use it.  Come for a free demonstration on:

  • TH June 28, 6:30 - 7:30 pm at the Johnston Public Library, 6700 Merle Hay Road, 50131
  • TH July 19, 6:30 - 7:30 pm at the Urbandale Public Library, 3520 86th Street, 50322

This is an educational meeting on the benefits of Kurzweil 3000 software.  Aspire Academy is a local provider for Kurzweil, and we are a provider of training. Come explore the benefits that this software could provide your student!

"I could write a book about the problems we had regarding our son and his learning disability. He was finally diagnosed at UW Madison. We sent him to a special reading camp in Northern Wisconsin for two summers which used the Orton Gillingham method only to have his regular teachers ignore everything he learned so he would back slide. I had a boss who trained pilots during the war who told me that when schools stopped teaching phonics you could see these kids coming out of the woodwork. But no one wants to listen. Yes, we can cut back on our education budgets and use that money to build more prisons because that is where a lot of our young people with disabilities will end up. God bless you for having a program to help these young people. Thank you."
